Our final concept in the thermochemistry unit is that of the energy of heating and cooling through phase transitions.  Today you will learn how to break these heating problems into parts so we can find the total energy absorbed or released in the heating or cooling.

(1) Describe what is happening from point C to D in terms of molecular motion.

(2) Label each stage of the heating curve (A-B, B-C, etc).  Be sure to indicate the change and the temperatures at the two plateaus if this sample is water.
